whaaat

whaaat converts the purchase price into the number that matters: the cost per day — making comparable what is otherwise hard to compare.

whaaat – cost-per-day tracker for iOS

What whaaat is

whaaat is a cost-per-day tracker: you record a purchase with its price and expected lifetime, and the app shows what it costs per day — per item and across everything you own. From that one figure follow a savings projection for replacement and a direct comparison between expensive, long-lasting and cheap, short-lived purchases.

What whaaat does differently

  • One question, answered well. No account reconciliation, no category bureaucracy — just the daily cost.
  • Private, on the device. No account, nothing transmitted, no ads. There is nothing that could be analysed.
  • Comparability instead of price. A price says little about cost. whaaat converts it into something you can weigh up.

Why MANOVIS built whaaat

The idea came out of conversations — in the team, among friends, again and again about things people had bought. What struck us was how rarely anyone has a feel for what something really costs: not the purchase price, but the using of it. And how rarely anyone knows how much they would need to set aside to replace, at some given point, what they bought today.

Budgeting apps are plentiful, but they count in months and years. What's missing is the conversion to a single day — and that is where it becomes vivid. A phone replaced every year costs about as much as the first takeaway coffee. Most people sense that a laptop will need replacing eventually; almost nobody thinks of the fact that using it carries a price tag every single day. You buy something, the money is spent, and the rest is forgotten.

whaaat holds up that mirror. Not to stop you buying, but so the decision is a conscious one: does this fit the budget — and do I really want it again? Only someone with a feel for their daily costs can plan at all. We think it matters to give this some thought.

whaaat was also our first complete run through the App Store — development, review, release, operation. That belongs to the portfolio too: we would rather walk a chain once ourselves than describe it.

Frequently asked questions

Does whaaat need an account?
No. The app works without registration, and your data stays on the device.
What is a cost-per-day figure?
The purchase price divided by how long you use the item. A jacket at 300 francs, worn for five years, costs about 16 centimes a day — a number you can compare against other purchases, which the price alone doesn't give you.
Will whaaat stop me buying things?
That isn't the point. whaaat doesn't judge, it calculates — and makes the decision a more conscious one. Sometimes that means going without; sometimes it means the more expensive, longer-lasting purchase.
Is whaaat a budgeting or accounting app?
No. whaaat doesn't manage accounts or book transactions. It answers a single question well rather than many of them halfway.
